The World Gold Council are an organisation set up to protect Britain’s gold reserves. When the government wanted to sell it off cheap, they wanted to stop them. On the day it was discussed in parliament we sailed a barge down the Thames, loaded with scrap, painted gold. The headline read: Precious Metal Give Away Prices, Gordon Brown and Co. Scrap Metal Dealers. The stunt was seen on the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky News. And it made the front page of the Financial Times. Two weeks later the sale was stopped.
